PTFE and PFA Lined Valve Selection Guide for Industrial RFQs
Lined valves are specified where the process requires a corrosion-resistant barrier between the fluid and the pressure-containing valve body. A useful RFQ must define the actual service conditions because liner suitability cannot be selected from the chemical name alone. This guide helps procurement and engineering teams structure lined-valve enquiries for technical review.

What is a lined valve?
A lined valve uses a corrosion-resistant polymer liner over specified wetted surfaces while the outer body provides mechanical support and pressure containment. The valve design, liner coverage and exposed trim vary by product type, so buyers should review sectional drawings and material schedules rather than relying only on a generic lined-valve description.
Common lined valve types
The appropriate valve mechanism depends on the required isolation, throttling, flow direction, pressure drop, solids content and operating frequency. The lining does not remove the need to select the correct valve design.
- Lined ball valves for quarter-turn process isolation
- Lined butterfly valves for compact isolation and control duties
- Lined plug valves for quarter-turn service in corrosive or difficult media
- Lined check valves for preventing reverse flow
- Lined gate and globe valves where the project specifies those operating characteristics
- Sampling valves for controlled process sampling arrangements
Selecting PTFE, PFA, FEP, PVDF or PP lining
Liner selection must consider chemical identity, concentration, operating and upset temperature, pressure, vacuum, permeation, diffusion, cleaning method and expected service life. PTFE, PFA, FEP, PVDF and PP are not universal substitutes for one another. Confirm the proposed material against current manufacturer compatibility data and the project specification.
Pressure, temperature and vacuum conditions
The allowable operating envelope is limited by the complete valve assembly, not just the outer body or polymer name. State normal, design and upset conditions in the enquiry. Vacuum or rapid thermal cycling should be declared because these conditions can influence liner support, dimensional stability and suitability.
Connections, dimensions and operation
Specify nominal size, pressure class, flange standard, facing, face-to-face requirement and operator. For replacement valves, provide the existing face-to-face dimension and piping drawing. Manual lever, gearbox, pneumatic or electric actuation should be defined together with fail action and accessories where applicable.
Testing and documentation
The purchase specification should state the required pressure and seat tests, liner inspection, spark or holiday testing where applicable, material certificates, dimensional records, coating documentation, actuator documents and third-party inspection. The exact scope must be agreed before order placement.
Lined valve RFQ checklist
A complete RFQ helps the manufacturer or supplier confirm technical suitability before commercial quotation.
- Valve type, size, pressure class and quantity
- Fluid name, concentration and phase
- Normal, design and upset pressure and temperature
- Required liner and body materials
- Flange standard, facing and face-to-face dimensions
- Manual or actuated operation and accessory requirements
- Applicable standards, testing, inspection and certification
- Tag list, datasheet, drawing and delivery destination
How SNG Services supports lined-valve enquiries
SNG Services supports lined-valve requirements for industrial projects in India and export markets. Buyers can submit a datasheet, bill of quantities or replacement details for lined ball, butterfly, check, gate, globe, plug and sampling valve enquiries. Final construction, compatibility, documentation and commercial terms are confirmed against the reviewed RFQ.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between PTFE-lined and PFA-lined valves?
They use different fluoropolymer liner materials and manufacturing approaches. The correct choice depends on chemical service, concentration, temperature, pressure, permeation risk, valve design and the project specification.
Can a lined valve be selected only from a chemical compatibility chart?
No. A compatibility chart is an initial reference. Selection must also consider concentration, pressure, temperature, vacuum, cycling, permeation, liner support, valve design and manufacturer limitations.
Which lined valves are used for corrosive chemical service?
Common enquiries include lined ball, butterfly, plug, check, gate and globe valves. The required mechanism depends on isolation, control, reverse-flow prevention and piping-layout needs.
What should be included in a lined valve RFQ?
Include valve type, size, class, fluid, concentration, pressure, temperature, liner, body material, flange details, operation, standards, testing, documentation and quantity.
Can SNG Services support lined valve export requirements?
SNG Services supports enquiries from India and international project teams. Share the destination, required documentation, inspection scope and packing requirements with the technical RFQ.
