Industrial Valve Documentation: MTC, Testing and Quality Certificates
Industrial valve procurement is not complete when the physical valve is delivered. For many EPC and industrial projects, documentation is an important part of technical acceptance. The exact documentation package depends on the project, purchase order and inspection requirements.

What is an MTC?
MTC generally refers to a Material Test Certificate. It provides material-related information and test results for the supplied material. Depending on the project requirements, buyers may specify particular certification standards or certificate formats.
Common industrial valve documents
Depending on the purchase specification, the documentation package may include material, inspection, testing, technical and commercial records.
- Material Test Certificate
- Valve test certificate
- Pressure test report
- Inspection report
- Certificate of conformity
- Datasheet and general arrangement drawing
- Calibration certificate where applicable
- Packing list and commercial invoice
- Certificate of origin
- Other project-specific documents
Why valve documentation matters
Documentation allows procurement and quality teams to verify whether supplied products correspond to the purchase requirements. The review may cover product identity, material traceability, pressure classification, testing and inspection status.
- Material grade and heat number
- Valve size and pressure rating
- Test pressure and test result
- Product identification
- Inspection status
What should be specified in the purchase order?
Buyers should clearly state documentation requirements before order placement. A requirement may include material certificates, testing, inspection, drawings, datasheets and applicable certificates. The actual list should be based on the project specification rather than assumed after ordering.
Third-party inspection
Some projects require inspection by an independent third-party agency. Where applicable, the inspection scope, hold points, witness points and documentation requirements should be agreed before manufacturing or testing.
Include documentation requirements in the RFQ
Documentation requirements should ideally be included in the RFQ itself. This allows manufacturers and exporters to consider the requirement when preparing the commercial offer and helps avoid unexpected documentation-related issues later.
Documentation is part of technical acceptance
Quality documentation is an important part of industrial valve procurement. A clear purchase specification helps ensure that both the product and the documentation package meet the project requirements.

Frequently asked questions
What is an MTC?
MTC generally means Material Test Certificate and provides material-related information and test results.
Is an MTC required for every valve?
Not necessarily. Requirements depend on the purchase specification, application and project documentation requirements.
What documents should I request with industrial valves?
The requirement can include MTCs, test reports, inspection reports, drawings, datasheets and other certificates depending on the project.
Can third-party inspection be arranged?
Where required by the project, third-party inspection can be included in the procurement specification and inspection plan. Availability, scope and commercial impact should be confirmed before order placement.
