Technical explainer
What Is the Purpose of a Flushing Ring?
A flushing ring is a flanged accessory installed next to a diaphragm seal to provide one or more access ports. Those ports can support flushing, draining, venting or maintenance activities without defining the diaphragm seal itself.

Where the flushing ring is installed
The ring sits in the flanged process connection adjacent to the diaphragm seal. Its position gives the service team access to the cavity near the seal. The complete stack-up, gasket arrangement and bolt length must follow the approved installation design.
What the ports can be used for
Depending on the plant procedure, ports may be connected for cleaning fluid, draining trapped process, venting or maintenance access. A port does not automatically make every operation safe; isolation, containment and the approved procedure remain necessary.
- Flushing deposits from the area near a diaphragm seal
- Providing a drain or vent connection where the layout permits
- Supporting maintenance or calibration procedures
- Connecting temporary or permanent valves and plugs as specified
Flushing ring, calibration ring and flushing flange
These terms are sometimes used differently across projects. The safest way to identify the item is by its flange dimensions, thickness, port quantity, port size, orientation, material and installation drawing rather than by name alone.
Information buyers should provide
State flange size and class, facing, ring thickness if controlled, material, number and size of ports, port orientation, plug or valve requirement, service conditions, quantity and the diaphragm seal or drawing reference.

How to Select a Flushing Ring for a Diaphragm Seal
A guide for selecting flushing rings, calibration rings and diaphragm seal accessories for draining, venting, cleaning and calibration.
Read the buyer guideFrequently asked questions
Does a flushing ring measure pressure?
No. It is an accessory that provides access ports near a diaphragm seal. The connected pressure instrument and seal perform the measurement function.
Can a flushing ring have more than one port?
Yes. Single- and multiple-port arrangements are possible. Port count and orientation should match the intended maintenance procedure and available access.
Why must port orientation be specified?
The ports need to be accessible after installation and positioned for the intended drain, vent or flushing connection. A drawing helps prevent an unusable orientation.
